Bambam, the little life I encountered at the neighborhood gate last June, has a story that flows like a bittersweet melody in my heart. At that time, Bambam was burdened with a severe case of demodectic mange and carried emotional scars that were hard to describe. Malnourished and struggling with illness for six long months, its eyes were filled with fear and avoidance of humans.
Fortunately, at a pivotal moment, I enlisted the help of a professional dog catcher to take Bambam to the hospital for treatment. After three months of meticulous care and treatment in the unfamiliar environment of the hospital, Bambam slowly began to emerge from its self-imposed isolation. The initial caution and unease gradually transformed into trust and dependence under the gentle caress of time. From initially sneaking food to openly enjoying meals in front of people, from defensive growls to accepting strokes and affection, each step of this journey was a testament to the miracles wrought by love and patience.
In the days following Bambam's discharge, I became its guide in exploring a new world. We walked through various places, and each interaction and encounter was a gentle touch to its soul. I encouraged Bambam to play with other dogs, teaching it how to find its place in society. I also trained it to face solitude independently, even though the separation anxiety sometimes kept it awake at night. Each triumph over these challenges was a mark of growth.
Now, looking back on this journey, Bambam has undergone a remarkable transformation. Although it still occasionally wakes from nightmares and its lifestyle remains leisurely and picky, the cheerfulness and confidence it now exudes from within are the most beautiful responses to all the love and care it received. Bambam has learned to trust and embrace the beauty of the world, choosing to move forward with love, despite past hurts.
