Kanel’s Journey: From Abandoned Kitten to Cherished Family Member

Many of life’s most meaningful relationships aren’t built by chance—they’re guided by love, patience, and fate. That’s exactly how Kanel, a blue-eyed Siamese mix, found his forever home.

A Fragile Beginning

Kanel was discovered alongside his brother Niko, trembling and malnourished beneath an apartment building. No one knew how long they had been hiding, calling for help, until Soledad, their soon-to-be mother, stepped in.

With a compassionate heart and an open home, Soledad rescued them both. Though they were frightened and fragile, she gently nursed them back to health—offering safety, nourishment, and, most importantly, love.

What's in a Name?

At first, Soledad thought Kanel was a girl. She named him Canelita—Spanish for “little cinnamon,” inspired by the soft tan shade of his fur. But a vet visit revealed he was male.

Determined to preserve the sentiment behind the name, she searched for alternatives. That’s when she found “Kanel,” the Swedish word for cinnamon. It was perfect—unique, meaningful, and fitting for her sweet companion.

A Cat With Cultural Flavor

Like many rescue cats, Kanel had some surprising preferences. From licking yogurt spoons to curiously sniffing spicy food, his taste buds seem to reflect his South American heritage. While he mostly enjoys high-quality cat food, he never misses a chance to try something new.

Simplicity is Joy: His Favorite Things

Kanel is not a cat of extravagance. His most loved toys are simple: anything dangling from a string, soft custom plush pet toys, and—of course—empty cardboard boxes.

To keep Kanel entertained and cozy, Soledad added a custom interactive pet toy to his routine. These personalized toys offer mental stimulation and bonding time between pets and their humans.

Another game-changer? The pet tunnel bed . Kanel adores hiding, zooming through, and napping inside it. These multi-functional tunnels help satisfy a cat’s natural instincts for exploration and rest.

Indoor Life in Miami

Now 5 years old, Kanel lives a calm, content indoor life in sunny Miami, Florida. While he shares his home with siblings Niko and Onyx, his favorite spot remains the blue chair bathed in afternoon sun.

He’s a shy soul, often hiding under the bed when guests arrive—but with Soledad, he’s affectionate, loyal, and incredibly gentle.

A Tech-Savvy Cat?

Kanel once had a quirky obsession: Soledad’s iPad. He would sleep on it, paw at the screen, and even whine when she picked it up. It was an unexpected digital love affair—but like many feline fascinations, it didn’t last.

Now, Kanel has returned to his roots—seeking out belly rubs, long naps, and the soft comfort of his tunnel bed.

A Life Forever Changed

When asked how Kanel and Niko changed her life, Soledad smiled and said:

“I never had a pet before. From the moment I found them, I knew everything was about to change. Now, I can’t imagine life without them. They’ve taught me patience, joy, and what it means to care deeply for another soul.”

Kanel's story is more than a tale of rescue—it’s a celebration of second chances, quiet love, and the simple joys of companionship.
