Good Boy Police Dog Makes Huge Drug Bust on First Day

Police dogs go through extensive training to learn how to be good K9 officers. One of the most common types of police dogs these days is the Belgian Malinois. This breed continues to prove themselves capable in the field and are extremely good learners. A 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, Rye, recently went through this program. Earning high marks alongside his handler, Rye showed he was a force to be reckoned with early   on.

K9 RYE SPENT 6 WEEKS LEARNING THE SKILLS OF A POLICE DOG

Drug detection, obedience, and protection are some of the many skills he now possesses. He worked diligently through the course, learning all the skills he needed to be a good police dog. Because of his hard work, Rye graduated from the program alongside his handler, Officer Iside in April, immediately becoming the newest member of the West Covina Police Department.

IT WASN’T LONG BEFORE K9 RYE’S SKILLS WERE NEEDED

At a routine traffic stop on May 19th, West Covina police officers realized this was much more than your everyday vehicle code violation.

While conducting a vehicle search, the officers discovered methamphetamine under the driver’s seat and K9 Rye was called to the scene. Excited to show everyone what he could do as a police dog on his first day, Rye led his handler around the car. Using his nose, he found something… 60 pounds of something!

WHAT A GOOD BOY!

Officers took the driver into custody and then impounded the vehicle. For his first day as a police dog, he did extremely well! Furthermore, K9 Rye is already proving himself to be a valuable member of the West Covina Police Department and his fellow officers are incredibly proud of him. Rye is now ready to continue serving the public and protecting his city.

Thank you for all your hard work, police dog Rye! And thank you to all the K9 officers around the country for serving the communities you live in and keeping us safe!

Case closed! I hope you’ve enjoyed learning about K9 Officer Rye, and the amazing work he is doing with the West Covina PD. If you know a K9 Officer who deserves to have their story shared, share it with us by tagging us in a post on social media with @Luckypet!
